The Room Change, Part 2

Having sorted the floor, the next step was painting. This was a long old task because the colour in my head did not easily transfer to the colour on my wall. Having bought numerous tester pots....

These are the colours I chose

but after I took this photo of Michaela face on my bed, I realised that his T-shirt blue was the colour I actually wanted.. oh well, it would have been real difficult to find!

Painting took DAYYYYYYYSSSSS. okay two, perhaps three. But I'm kind of impatient. The general idea for colours was blue on that wall (as you can see), dark grey on that wall (again, as you can see) and lighter grey on the window wall. I don't know why I needed three colours, but it's what I was feeling so it happened. I also chose a dark brown gloss for the wall moldings and door. I slightly regret this decision, as really it needs to be lighter.. but that's something I'm working on (with sandpaper).

So with my walls painted, the organising and bed came next!

And there you have it! That's all I have to show you currently. The painting and floors are all sorted, the bed made and the cupboards organised. I still need new curtains and I want to distress the walls a little, think thisthis and this. I also need something to go above my bed there, some kind of feature. I'm thinking an old kind of frame that's quite big, or a big mirror or something. But we'll see.. I haven't found anything in the charity shops/car boot sale just yet.

Weekly Roundup #24

So this week was incredibly hindered by the snow, one lecture cancels and few buses running. I took the time to get my room organised, I love it when papers are in their place!

During a busy Wednesday I took an hour to myself to finish reading the Goblet of Fire and have a jam flapjack, mmm

Nando's were so generous with our raffle prizes, they are such a lovely business!
and I also loved this chest in their store.

Thorntons were also overly generous.. Stella was an absolute babe and I'm so grateful!

The ridiculous snow.. grit made no difference!

I have also been making the wall above my laptop look pretty so I'm filled with inspiration whilst I'm writing.
Lots of baby photo's (her face isn't a big blur, I'm respecting my sisters wishes of not sharing photo's), and also lots of Michael's to remember all the cool things we've done!

So many curls with my curling wand

Mini Jam pots. So sweet. Not sure what I'm gona use it for but it's too pretty to throw away.

My Hyacinth is growing away, gona have flowers in no time :)

Next week is going to be filled with a literature review so I don't know if I'll get round to blogging, but hopefully I will! What are you up to next week? Any good plans?

The Basics of Scrapbooking

You may or may not know, that I enjoy scrapbooking. I have put together a little photographic guide to help new participants take part! Before anything, you need to know what photograph you want as the main focus and any other you want to include. That way, you'll know which colour is dominant and which base papers to look for - e.g. for a mainly green photograph, some wouldn't choose pink or orange as they wouldn't be seen as complimentary (I personally would, but my designs are quirky). But you will need an idea of what you want/have to work with.

First of all, you need to have some good base pattern papers. I only buy my pattern papers in the sale - they're cheaper, and they're still just as pretty even if they're last seasons designs! You can only use so many at once, and some of mine have stayed in my pack for ages because I feel they're too beautiful and need an extra good cause.

I personally have to keep mine in colour order, mainly because I have slight OCD. But I don't think it is a bad thing - if you think, ooh I need a blue to go with this, you can put it next to that section of your papers and see which ones look good, rather than having to sort through them all.
I also have a lovely box that my grandma bought me for Christmas to keep them all ordered in - because I get very particular with my lovely pages!

Next, you'll need a good set of base colours. These can just go alongside the pattern papers, but if you fancy a half and half design then you'll have colours to match! You can always cut them up for layering as well if you don't like half and half pages.

I also collect any scrap paper that I think will come of use at any time - I won't have a particular idea for it, but I know it will come in handy at some point! I have just ordered my mums scrap paper into her new sorting-shelves (In colour order of course), as my selection isn't as developed and because I don't have a full room I can dedicate to craft!

Next, you'll need things to make the pages more pretty, my favourite kinds of things are; brads, buttons, beads, wire, glitter, flowers, punches, cut out designs, lace and fabric etc. To organise mine, I have a very handy compartment-ed box.

Then, there's just the standard crafting tools such as; scissors, double sided sticky tape, pritt stick, hot glue gun, ruler, rubber, pencil/pen etc.

I also believe that you will need a guillotine, I've tried using scissors but it just doesn't get the same results.

Now you're ready to start!
